LAUPĀHOEHOE COMMUNITY PCS experience
Kā Laupāhoehoe Makahiki 2023 (Nov 2023 - Jan 2024)
As the instructor in high school digital media classes, I led a significant project in collaboration with my students: the creation of the short documentary film "Ka Laupahoehoe Makahiki 2023" for submission to the inaugural Hawaiʻi International Film Festival ‘Ōpio Fest. This festival aims to spotlight the talents of young filmmakers across Hawaii.
This project was a major undertaking, requiring students to plan, film, and produce the quick turnaround film in less than three days. Under my guidance, I instructed students on reviewing previous Makahiki highlights and assessing strengths and areas for improvement. Additionally, I provided training on operating camera equipment, conducting interviews, and editing using Adobe Premiere Pro.
Throughout the process, students learned hands-on skills and gained valuable experience in every aspect of filmmaking. On the day of Makahiki, we worked together to capture cultural practices, Makahiki games, and the launching of the waʻa into Hilo Bay. The following two days were dedicated to selecting the best interview segments and B-roll footage, and editing the videos for the film.
Despite the tight deadline, my students rose to the occasion and successfully completed the 5-minute film, demonstrating their creativity, dedication, and teamwork. It was a rewarding experience for all involved.
Web Content Coordination (2018 - present)
As the Web Content Coordinator for Laupāhoehoe Community Public Charter School, I played a key role in strategically managing and curating content across various social media channels, ensuring consistent branding. My responsibilities included effectively communicating the school's updates, achievements, and events to enhance its online presence while maintaining a cohesive brand identity. I applied skills in strategic planning to engage the community positively, showcasing the diverse activities and accomplishments of students and faculty, ultimately contributing to the school's digital success. Over a span of five years, I have grown the school's Instagram following from less than 200 followers to over 600 followers today.
Lihi Kai (yearbook) Advisor + Lead Cover Designer
As a yearbook advisor for high school digital media classes, my job was to help students create awesome yearbooks. I guided them in selecting content and led the design, especially focusing on making beautiful and custom covers. Working together, we made sure the yearbooks looked great and captured the memorable moments of the school year.
